POWERLASE Named UK Manufacturer of the Year

  • Latest award concludes an extremely successful year for POWERLASE and recognises the development of sophisticated laser technology and innovative applications within the Flat Panel Display (FPD) industry.

POWERLASE Limited, manufacturers of the world’s most powerful nanosecond Q-switched, diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, has been named 'Manufacturer of the Year for 2007' at the Elektra Awards.

POWERLASE received the prestigious award in recognition of the company’s success in the development of class-leading laser technology and its application within the Flat Panel Display (FPD) manufacturing industry. The company has in particular contributed to innovation of the manufacture of Plasma Display Panels (PDP), with a significant percentage of global PDP production reliant on POWERLASE lasers.

POWERLASE was shortlisted for the award following a record number of entries. Runners up included TQ Systems, an electronics board and systems manufacturer, and Plexus UK, a product development and installation company. The judges complimented POWERLASE on the company’s efforts to develop technology to meet customer requirements and for maintaining close working relationships with both customers and partner organisations.

Company comments

Mike Mason, Vice President of Technology at POWERLASE, who directed the entry comments: “One of the factors that we believe sets us apart from other manufacturers is our close customer contact during the development of new technology and applications. The only way to both develop innovative technology and meet real-world manufacturing requirements is to identify customer needs and then work to specifically address these needs. We’ve seen the great success and results from these relationships in the area of PDP manufacture and are looking to expand further into other high growth markets.”

The latest award affirms the achievements of POWERLASE, which include victory at The Manufacturer Awards 2007 in the ‘Design and Innovation’ category and the company being listed as the 21st fastest growing technology company in the UK by The Sunday Times TechTrack Rankings.
