POWERLASE appoints Head of Engineering and Operations to oversee world class manufacturing

  • POWERLASE appoints Matt Kelly as head of engineering and operations

  • Kelly will oversee all engineering development, laser manufacture and quality control at POWERLASE.

POWERLASE Ltd, manufacturer of the world’s most powerful nanosecond Q-switched, diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, has appointed Matt Kelly as head of engineering and operations. Kelly will oversee all engineering projects with clients in South Korea and the USA, as well as the development of POWERLASE’s class-leading lasers.

Kelly’s appointment cements POWERLASE’s position as a key supplier of lasers in the global electronics marketplace. The company has grown exponentially over the past three years and currently supplies laser systems to Samsung and LG for the manufacture of plasma display panel (PDP) televisions.

The new role will see Kelly take charge of two business units. On the engineering side, Kelly’s main responsibilities include ensuring all engineering projects and resources are aligned to company business targets and regular liaison with POWERLASE’s customers across the globe. Kelly will also be involved in the sourcing and procurement of laser components, while overseeing the building of all lasers from a quality control perspective.

Company comments

Commenting on his new position, Kelly says: “Since the company’s inception in 2001, I’ve watched POWERLASE grow from a university spin-out to a market-leading supplier of major consumer electronics manufactures. POWERLASE is well known in the industry for technology development through close working collaborations with customers and I’m looking forward to developing these relationships, as well as fostering new ones in the future.”

Previously Kelly held a number of positions at POWERLASE, including engineering manager and mechanical design engineer. Prior to joining POWERLASE Kelly held the position of mechanical engineer at Sortex Ltd and Solartron Ltd where he gained invaluable experience in opto-mechanical R&D and value engineering.
