Powerlase Appoints New Applications Engineering Manager to Drive Expansion into New Markets

  • UK-based Laser Innovator Employs New Manager Ahead of Further Expansion into High Growth Markets

Powerlase Limited, manufacturers of the world’s most powerful nanosecond Q-switched, diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, today announces the appointment of Paul Harrison as Applications Engineering Manager.

The appointment comes as Powerlase prepares to expand into new sectors and international markets. To date, the laser innovator has successfully developed applications for a variety of sectors including solar cells and AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) display manufacture. As innovation at Powerlase is driven by customer requirements, Paul will be instrumental in driving development of new applications with existing and potential Powerlase customers.

In the new role he will be the overall manager of the applications group, which looks at further expanding Powerlase’s applications process development capabilities to meet customer demand. This includes working within sectors where Powerlase has an established presence and with new market sectors considered to have high growth potential.

Paul has 14 years of experience working with lasers and holds a BA (Eng) in Electronics Engineering from Brunel University. He is currently studying for an Engineering Doctorate at Heriot Watt University. Prior to joining Powerlase Paul ran his own laser cutting company, Go! Lasers Limited, based in Cardiff. Prior to this he was a customer support engineer for Zed Instruments Limited, a specialist in high power laser engraving equipment.

Company comments

Talking about his new role, Paul states, “It’s a really exciting time to be working at Powerlase. All innovation at Powerlase is driven through close working relationships with customers and partners. It’s great seeing our world class laser technology being used to create applications to exact customer requirements. Working so closely with customers really is the way to get them enthusiastic about our products.”

Les Lockwood, CEO at Powerlase adds, “The Applications Group is a key area of our business and Paul’s wealth of knowledge and experience make him ideal for the role.
