Powerlase Appoints Vice President of Technology and Vice President of Strategic Innovations to Drive continued Global Growth

POWERLASE Limited, manufacturers of the world’s most powerful nanosecond Q-switched, diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, has strengthened its senior management layer in preparation of continued dramatic global expansion that has seen the laser innovator achieve 233% year-on-year growth.

The dual appointment paves the way for its planned threefold capacity increase between 2006 and 2007. Dr. Mike Mason takes up a position as Vice President of Technology, with Dr. Samir Ellwi being appointed Vice President of Strategic Innovations.

Dr. Mason will take charge of the Development and Design Group at POWERLASE, heading a team tasked with mechanical and electrical engineering as well as laser and product development. The team’s activities are pivotal to the continued development of the POWERLASE Starlase laser range and the company’s expansion in the UK, West Coast US and Asian marketplaces.

Company comments

Commenting on his new role, Dr. Mason says, “During my time at POWERLASE I have seen the company go from strength-to-strength. The continued growth and recent expansion into the Asian market demonstrate the great momentum the company is currently achieving. I’m looking forward to continuing this success in my new role.”

As Vice President of Strategic Innovations, Dr. Ellwi’s primary task will be to promote the application of laser technology in the development of laser produced plasma (LPP) and discharged produced plasma (DPP) extreme ultraviolet (EUV) sources, which are critical for next generation lithography. POWERLASE recently announced EUV research collaborations with the EUVA Japan and UCF in the USA. Additionally, he will lead the strategic development of products to satisfy market requirements and formulate strategies to promote existing products. Dr. Ellwi joined POWERLASE in 2001, where he lead the development of the AO6 and AO8 lasers from concept to market release.

Commenting on his new position, Dr. Ellwi says, “The position of Vice President of Strategic Innovations will provide a challenging and rewarding role. It is a very exciting time to be working at POWERLASE and I’m looking forward to using my experience to further POWERLASE’s expansion.”
